1884: Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) was approved by International Meridian Conference in Washington, DC, USA on October 13. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is mean solar time at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in Greenwich, London, England, which by convention is at 0 degrees geographic longitude. It is the same all year round and is not effected by Summer Time or Daylight Savings Time.
