People walk along the slopes（斜坡）of the Cayambe volcano during the Ruta del Hielo (Ice Route) competition, 45 kilometres north of Quito, August 27, 2006. Participants carry blocks of glacial ice（流动冰）on their backs down the 5,790 meter-high volcano to the town. The annual competition evolved（进化）from the tradition of ice harvesting to make ice cream, a practice that died with the advent（出现） of electric ice-makers.
